Nelson Durham was born November 25, 1942, to the union of Prince Albert Durham and Josephine Jorden Durham, who both preceded him in death. He was the oldest of twelve children born to this union and was also preceded in death by three brothers; Jerry Durham, Harry Durham and Louis Durham, and a sister Ulysses Durham Fullilove.
Nelson attended school and received his formal education in the Carroll County, MS Public School System in Black Hawk and Vaiden, MS. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Black Hawk, MS. He later relocated to Chicago and while living there he attended the United Baptist Church and Miracle Revival. Nelson left a legacy that the family will cherish forever. God blessed him with the gift to sing at a very early age and he continued his song and music ministry until his health failed. His gift was a blessing to his family and other people as well.
Nelson married at an early age to Johnnie Givens and God blessed this union with three children. He later remarried and four additional children were added to his family, Herman Hudson, preceded him in death. He began his work career in Greenwood, MS and later relocated to Chicago, IL where he worked and retired from Harrington and King Perforating Company after 35 years. In January 2015, he and his wife moved to Memphis, Tennessee until God called him home in the early morning of July 29, 2017, after a year-long illness.
Nelson leaves to cherish his memories a wife of 35 years, Dollie Durham; Three children, Clara Durham, Merlin (Queshella) Durham and Orson (Vaunasha) Durham, all of Dallas, TX, and three stepsons, Frederick Hudson, Zachary Hudson and Anthony Hudson, all of Chicago, IL; Ten grandchildren, DaSean (Stephanie) Durham, Tanika Durham, Aysia Prince, Tori Donald, Ebone Durham, Erin Wilson, Eris Wilson, Briana Raper, Quedezha Durham, and Quazae Sims; Three great grandchildren; Four brothers, Charles (Mattie) Durham of Chicago, IL, Albert (Vivian) Durham and Generallet Durham, Coila, MS, and Marvin (Juanita) Durham, Greenwood, MS; Three sisters, Gary Ella (Richard) Moore, Coila, MS, Dorothy (Glovers) Gross and Delores (James) Anthony of Memphis, TN; Two aunts, Beatrice Durham Lawrence, Indianapolis, IN and Annie Fluker Durham, Coila, MS; One sister-in-law Catherine Durham, Hurley, MS; One brother-in-law Otis Fullilove; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
