Polly was born on the fifteenth of April, 1932 to the late Mary Roberts Armstead and Jessie Jackson in Kilmichael, MS. She was adopted by the late John Davis "J.D." Armstead at the age of 8 months old. She was the oldest of three children.
Polly was proceeded in death by four brothers namely: John Armstead, Winston Armstead, L.B. Daniels and L.D. Daniels and one sister, Sarah Ann Campbell. Also proceeding her in death was her beloved Uncle Clover Green.
Polly was baptized and later accepted Christ as a young lady while a member at her home church of Lindsay Spring Baptist Church in Montgomery County, MS.
Polly was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie Dell Hall on May 25, 1951. Afterwards, she united with the Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Kilmichael where she served until her health failed. Polly was a homemaker. She loved to travel, garden, fish and cook. As a community activist, during the historic "Walk Out" in Montgomery County School in the late 1960's, she took to the streets and marched with others protesters. As well, she served as one of the main cooks at the old Kilmichael Community Center which was the meeting place for the protesters involved.
To Those Who Knew Her, Polly Was Well Known For Her Zeal For Life & Her Celebratory Spirit For It. She Was Known hroughout The Local Community For Cooking Skills. In Particular, For Her Banana Cakes & Hypocrite Pies In Which Were Most Often Present At Her Many Birthday Celebrations At Which She Has Fed Countless Ones Over The Years. Moreover, Polly Was Known For Her Huge Heart Of Love. Not Only For Her Family But To All With Whom She Crossed Paths.
Having Preceeded Her In Death, Were Her Son & Daughter James Ellis & Geneva. Among Those That Polly Leaves To Mourn & Celebrate Her Loving Memories Are Here Ten Children: Connice Gamble, of Arlington TX; Mary (Albert) Hemphill, Of McCool; MS, Mattie (Billy Ray) McBride, Pauline Hall, Gayle (Ray) Weems) All Of Kilmichael, MS; Johnny (Lula) Hall, Of South Bend, IN; Dennis Hall Of Kilmichael, MS; Synott (Sharon) Hall Of South Bend, IN; Lynne Hall Of Kilmichael, MS; & Otis (Raquel) Hall Of South Bend, IN; Seventeen Grand Children, Thirty-Two Great Grand Children, Two Sisters: Julia Ann (Jamie) Flowers Of Kilmichael, Ms, & Lucille Butts Of Chicago, IL. One Surviving Uncle: R.P. Roberts Of Gary, IN; Three Sister -In -Laws: Mary Peeples, Willie Mae Triplett, Dannie Lee Witty All Of Kilmichael MS; One Brother -In -Law: John Turner Of Kilmichael, MS; A Host Of Niceces, Nephews, Cousins, & Countless Adopted Sons & Daughters Whom She loved As Her Own.
