Mrs. Ida Mae Watkins Brunty, 71, of Eupora, MS, departed this transitory life for one promised and prepared by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 29, 2019. She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Earmond (Alberta) Watkins on January 4, 1948, in Mantee, MS.
Ida Mae graduated from Oktibbeha-Webster High School in Maben, MS and furthered her education at Mary Holmes Junior College in West Point, MS where she graduated magna cum laude with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development.]
After graduation, she met and married, Dan Brunty, Jr. of Eupora, MS. They were married for 28 years. To this union, two sons (Twaskie Don J. and the late Daniel Tremaine Brunty) were born. They taught their sons to always treat others with love and respect; especially the elderly, along with other valuable life lessons.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Callahan Missionary Baptist Church in Woodland, MS. Ida Mae was a virtuous woman, which she exemplified daily in her walk with the Lord. After moving to Eupora, she joined the Mt. Union Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. During this long-term membership at Mt. Union, she served on various ministries: Financial Secretary, member of the Missionary Society Board of Trustees, Director of Vacation Bible School and a member of the Choir.
Until her recent retirement, Ms. Brunty was employed as a teacher with the Eupora Head Start for 45+ years. This professional tenure made her well-known throughout the Eupora community and surrounding cities.to her long tenure, she was well known throughout the Eupora community and surrounding cities. She couldn't walk into an establishment without being stopped and hugged by generations of family members and children who remembered her fondly.
Throughout her life, Ida Mae maintained a sweet and quiet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. She was the epitome of a true "lady". She loved beautiful clothes and was always "up" on the latest fashion trends. She led an exemplary life for the world to see. She relied on her incredible faith in God and his promises for her life to guide her through her recent illness and unbearable losses.
Ms. Ida Mae Brunty leaves to cherish her memory her son, Twaskie Don J. (Kimberlly) Brunty, grandchildren Ivan and Avery Brunty; five sisters: Mary (Ostranda) Lane, Audrey Watkins-Savage, Barbara Ann (Donnie) Kilgore of Saginaw, MI, Virginia (Zeke) Barber of Schererville, IN and Marilyn (Bobby) McKie of Aurora, CO; four brothers: John (June) Watkins of Bakersfield, CA; Billy (Gloria) Watkins of Gary, IN; Earviine (Charlie Ann) Watkins of Saginaw, MI and Wayne Watkins of Eupora, MS; her in-laws: Janice (William) Jennings and Mattie Dumas of Eupora, MS; Robert (Erma) Brunty of Cassopolis, MI; Louis Brunty of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces & nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins, and many supportive and loving friends who stepped in many times to provide friendship, a shoulder of comfort, and personal assistance.
Ms.Ida Mae Brunty was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Dan Brunty, Jr.; son, Daniel Tremaine Brunty; grandson, Easton Brunty; parents, Mr. Press and Alberta Watkins; sister, Sara Watkins; brother, Willie Edd Watkins; father and mother-in-law, Mr. Dan and Mrs. Carrie Brunty; sisters-in-law Earline Murray and Meveline Jean Brunty.
