Kelvin Everrett Wilkins was born on August 17, 1959 in Lexington, Mississippi. He was the youngest child born of the late Mattie Pearl Wilkins and John Westly Fisher.  Kelvin moved to Chicago in 1970 at the age of 11.  After moving to Chicago, he graduated from Harlan High school in 1976 and joined New Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1990, Kelvin began working with the United States Postal Service, starting out as a truck driver in Chicago, IL before eventually being promoted to transportation supervisor.  In 2006, Kelvin requested a transfer to Jackson, Mississippi and returned to live in West, Mississippi. In total, Kelvin worked at the United States Postal Service for 27 years before his failing health forced him to leave his position in March of 2017. Upon his return to Mississippi, he joined Martin Grove Missionary Baptist Church and has been an active member since.

Kelvin is preceded in death by his mother Mattie Pearl Wilkins; his father, John Weslty Fisher; his brother, Curtis Draine; and his sisters Rosie Archie, and Maggie Thornton.

Kelvin is survived by his three children Samira Payne (Eddie) of South Bend, IN; Mariah Wilkins of Tinley Park, IL; and Kelvin Wilkins Jr of Lynwood, IL; and his step-son David Vaughn (Sarah) of Tinley Park, IL. He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters Sylvia Jackson of Chicago, IL; Linda Montgomery of Park Forest, IL; and Erlina McKnight of AZ; and six brothers Charles Raymond Draine of Momence, IL,; Jerome Wilkins (Diane) of Chicago, IL; John Fisher (Debra) of Eerie, MI; Willie Earl Fisher (Annie) of West, MS; W.A. Fisher (Charlotte) of West, MS; and Ervin Larry of TX.

His laugh, his knack for great conversation, and his caring heart will be greatly missed. These memories will forever be held in the hearts of his family and friends until the day we meet again.

 

The Family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

 The remails will lie in repose until 10:55 a.m. on Saturday and will not be viewed after the eulogy.

Rev. Nathaniel Studway will officiate the service.

Interment will follow in the Martin Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County, Mississippi.

 

 

Roberts & Sons Mortuary will be receiving flowers on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
