Geraldine “Gerrie” Bush, An O.E.S (Order of the Eastern Star) A follower of God’s Word. “Goodness is a process of becoming, not of being. What we do over and over again is what we become in the end.” -Chittister
Geraldine Richardson was born in McCarley, Mississippi to James and Sarah Richardson, both of them preceded her in death. Along with 6 other siblings, little Gerri or “Boogie” grew up with (“Teesah” “Lil Bruh”, “Bunch”, Sug Goose) and maintained a special relationship with them all to this day. She attended (then) Marshall High School. Shortly after graduating, Gerrie attended The College of Accounting & Finance (then) satellite branch of Memphis State University.
Her college education was put on hold when she married George “Petey Hansbrough” Bush, relocated to Chicago, and began a family, only to resettle in North Carrollton, and later Ridgeland (Jackson). After 10 years of marriage, “Gerrie” became Geraldine as she turned a new page, forged a new path in Texas and began the next chapter of her life. With a good word put in from her younger sister Barbara, Geraldine began what would be a 27-year career as a member of the Payroll Group at Haggar Apparel Company.
Now with grown children, Geraldine made the decision to see about her parents in their golden years until they moved on. Then, after 14 years she left her Payroll Manager position of Leflore County Corrections to settle back Texas, bringing with her the beautiful values that made her the force of nature she was, and to carry out her “best life” years as “Gerrie”, “Mama”, “Granny” and even “G.G”. With a smile that would say it all, and with the most contagious laugh, Geraldine had such an instinctive ability to make friends anywhere and everywhere she went. Among those wonderful things she brought to life, none I think I’ll miss as much as her ‘notorious’ cakes. Whether just out of the oven, or the freezer, or even visiting someone in another state, Gerrie always had a cake ready for anyone…any occasion to keep everyone’s sweet tooth fully satisfied.
She is survived by her two Children: Yolanda Bush and Reginald. Her five Grandchildren: Le’Andrea, Ashanti, Jasmine, Tovia and Chloe, and her seven Great-Grandchildren: Gabriel, Khennadi, Aaron Jr., Edrick Jr., Kyren, Christian Jr., and little Noah. Sisters Barbara (Bunch) and Katherine (Sug Goose), along with a host of many other relatives and friends.
