GREGORY TRAVILLION Obituary

Gregory Earl Travillion was born to Dr. Joseph and Audrey Travillion on July 19, 1959 in Tuskegee, Alabama.  He was a loving and caring person who professed his love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson, Mississippi.

Education

Education and preparation were important in Greg’s life.  He attended Christ the King Preparatory Center.  Later he attended Holy Ghost Catholic School and Dawson Elementary School.  He made friends easily and maintained many close friendships from pre-kindergarten throughout his life.  He also attended Baseline Junior High School in Boulder, Colorado where his parents attended the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Upon returning to Jackson, Greg attended Provine High School.  He loved his school and his classmates.  He made many lifelong friends there while playing basketball (All-City), participating in Class Capers (who will ever forget the Rammy for the Big Fig Newton), and just hanging with his boys.  Alcorn State University was a second home to Greg.  We spent many summers and weekends working out in the gym, shooting pool or playing table tennis at the Student Union Building (SUB), going to concerts, or just watching the band prepare for football games.  He developed a set of friends there too.  He was at his best practicing with the Alcorn Braves Basketball team, which gave him the confidence and skills to excel at Provine.  He never met a stranger, regardless of where he visited.

Greg attended Grambling State University for one year, but found his way home to his beloved Alma Mater, Tougaloo College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.  He also received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.  He pursued further study at Prairie A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin.

Profession

Greg’s professional career allow him to teach children in the classroom, coach student athletes (basketball, softball, and track), serve as an Assistant Principal, and Principal in three states, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.  He loved working with students and brought the best out of those who he touched.  He also worked in the Accreditation Division of the Texas Education Agency.  He achieved several levels of certification.  He truly enjoyed being a part of the teaching profession.

Family

We celebrate his transition from this world into eternity.  Left to cherish his memory are his father, Dr. Joseph T. Travillion, Jr., his brothers, Jeffrey W. Travillion, Sr. (Perri), David A. Travillion, Sr. (Markitta), and John Travillion.  His children, John William Travillion (JaToya), Jordan Travillion, and Jillian Travillion.  His nephews and nieces, Jeffrey W. Travillion, Sr. (Taryn), Paige A. Travillion, Andrew J. Travillion, Tony Travillion, and Anisa Travillon.  His grand-nephew, Jeffrey W. Travillion, III.  He will also have a number of cousins and friends to cherish his loving memory.
