WALTER MITCHELL Obituary

Walter Joe "Mitch" Mitchell ,73, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Vaiden, Mississippi on May 21, 1947 to the late Sammie and Maggie Mitchell.  Walter was the 9th of 12 children born to this union.

He was a 1965 graduate of Vaiden High School and continued his education at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Ct., where he studied civil engineering.

He was a devout Catholic and was very community and civic minded.  He took an active role in matters that were designed for the betterment of the community. He attended church in Vaiden under the leadership of Bro Marvin Edwards, OFS.  He also maintained active membership at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bristol, Tn., where he divided his time between his home there and the farm in Vaiden until his death.

Mitch was friendly, outgoing, never met a stranger, could out talk a door-to-door salesman.

Walter utilized his many, varied trade skills to enrich the lives of others such as his years of instructing students in the Heavy Equipment Trade at the Jacobs Creek Job Corps in Bristol, Tenn. He was a cross-country truck driver for the J.B. Hunt Trucking Co. Mitch was a licensed pilot and "loved" flying his private airplane, riding his motorcycle, and maintaining upkeep on his "older model" vehicles.  He loved the farm and worked diligently at it"s upkeep, bus hogging, backhoe digging, etc. Mitch could operate just about any piece of heavy equipment there was.  His grandson Jayden looked forward to the summers with his granddaddy so he could ride the lawnmower, fly in the plane and go into town to McDonald's.

Walter was the proud, doting father to twin daughters, Tiffany Holiday Mitchell and Brittany Adeline Mitchell and his son Jeremy Michael Mitchell "JUR".  He was also blessed with five grandchildren, Jeremiah, triplets; Zamiah, Trinity and Nikiah and his beloved "Nugget", Jayden Michael Mitchell.  He is survived, in addition to his children, former wife Celestine Mitchell and grandchildren, by two brothers, Eddie Mitchell and R.B. Mitchell.  Three sisters; Melverda Mitchell, Addie B. Mitchell and Betty White.  Many others are left to cherish fond memories of him, nieces, nephews, former co-workers, friends, the Driver Family and many others he came in contact with during his journey here on earth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Fleming and Margaret Coker and a brother, W.S. Mitchell.
