Filma (Shelton) Hill

Filma (“Fil”) Shelton Hill, the third daughter of Della Hill Shelton and the late Mitchell Shelton, was born on June 24, 1959 in Kilmichael, Mississippi.  Brothers Earnest, Kendrick and John Leslie and sister, Shirlene Carter Shelton, preceded her in death.  She departed this life on April 8, 2017 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Fil graduated from Kilmichael High School in 1977 and enrolled in Alcorn State University the following fall.  While at Alcorn, Fil pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.  She graduated from Alcorn in December 1980 and began a teaching career at Kilmichael Elementary school.

Fil obeyed the gospel and was baptized into Christ at the Winona Church of Christ where she worshiped through 1981.  On December 26,1981, she was united in holy matrimony to Carl Hill and moved to Little Rock, AR.  In 1984 Carl and Fil relocated to Atlanta, GA where she transitioned into motherhood with the births of her two sons.  She remained the consummate mother with two moves to Dallas and Cary (Raleigh, NC). She loved to travel and ensured her sons had opportunities to do so as well. To know Fil was to love Fil.   Everyone that knew Fil knew she was a giver - from the start of her early career as an elementary special education teacher, to a mother of 2 sons and in her later years as a caregiver for her mother.                      

Left to cherish precious memories are her husband of 35 years, and the love of her life, Carl, two sons, Cody Benard, Auckland, New Zealand and Corey Denard, Laguna Beach, CA, her mother, Della Hill Shelton,  a brother, Dennis (Carol) Shelton, Long Beach, CA, three sisters, Dorris (William) Gulley, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte Shelton, Gulfport, MS and Tracy Shelton, Greenwood, MS, and Aunt  Aslene James, Memphis, TN, several nieces and nephews, special cousins, mother, sister and brother in-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.
